Picking up from #1, we want the website to default to secure, so checked this in Step 9 of Managing a custom domain for your GitHub Pages site - GitHub Docs:

• Optionally, to enforce HTTPS encryption for your site, select Enforce HTTPS. It can take up to 24 hours before this option is available. For more information, see "Securing your GitHub Pages site with HTTPS."

However when trying to visit https://findinghal.org, am getting this insecure certificate:

Hopefully per mention above the cerificate will get generated within next 24 hours. Might need to take an extra step to force from http://findinghal.org to redirect to https://findinghal.org, like in DNS:
