Brings this project up to my "current" practices, tools and versions:

Uses ES2015 syntax
Converts tests to AVA
Incorporates eslint
Adds test coverage
Minor miscellaneous cleaning

This isn't everything, but it feels like a good-sized chunk to start before digging in for deeper refactoring.
