Fullscreen mode disables Spotlight #254

What steps will reproduce the problem? Enter fullscreen mode and hit the
Spotlight shortcut
cmd-Space.

What is the expected output? I would expect Spotlight to work, perhaps showing
the menu bar
temporarily, and then going back into fullscreen mode. What do you see
instead? Spotlight
does not appear.

What version of MacVim and OS X are you using (see "MacVim->About MacVim"
and "Apple Menu->About This Mac" menu items, e.g. "Snapshot 40, 10.5.6
Intel")? Snapshot 51, 10.6.2 Intel

Please provide any additional information below.
I even tried mapping Cmd-Space to a function that disabled fullscreen and
resent the keys, but
the map didn't do anything for that key combo

Happens to me too; I then learned that this is a Mac OS X issue (Cmd-Space to
invoke spotlight doesn't work in any full-screen'd app).

Just updating this issue in case anyone looks here & wonders why it is marked
WontFix.

"this is a Mac OS X issue."

MacVim (and other VIs) are based on the principle of easy to use (in the Doug
Engelbart sense) vs. easy to learn (current UI convention)

For me, this is a usability issue. I don't see the value in disabling
spotlight, and it hinders my workflow that I can't bring it up easily.

Are we not addressing it for the sake of consistency with other apps? If no
one else is interested in this functionality, then so be it. But "other
fullscreen apps don't do X" is a lower value for me than "this will add value
to the user", and anyone using vi has already voted similarly ;-)

Well said! Was just posting the link so others know the score, not as a
statement against solving the issue.
