Vertical Tab #62

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

When lots of files are opened, it would be much more useful if tabs can be
displayed vertically in
the sidebar instead of on top of the window.

This has been suggested in the past. I think Nico Weber is considering
implementing such a feature some time
in the future.

This would be really nice ... any updates on this?

No. I considered implementing it for a while, but dropped the idea. If someone
wants to
do it, the old carbon version of vim has tabs in a drawer, so perhaps some of
that code
can be used.

This feature would be awesome though :)

Some arguments in favour of this:

- My monitors and laptops have all got much wider in recent years, so there's
lots
more extra space on the sides than on the top
- Tabs on top aren't very functional when working with lots of files with the
same
names but different directories (e.g. lots of different view.py files in a
django
project). Side tabs would let a decent amount of the path be shown.

I think a drawer would be the most ergonomic way of doing it.

I'd very much like to see this + Issue #119 combined and added to MacVim :)
