Solved in the bug description, tried updating some of the package files on my fork to ease things up, may require more work in order to fully garantee Polymer 1.7.0 compatibility.

Sure, and perhaps I've been too eager to make the pull request - perhaps this needs more attention on upgrading to Polymer 1.7.0 - my changes may still allow for Polymer version mismatches during npm install, so maybe some more effort should be needed before cleanly fixing this.
