Overhaul the SampleFramework #414

I've got plans to overhaul the sample framework to clean it up, remove
unnecessary stuff, and add UI support.

Marking this with Whenever priority. The stuff we have will work for now.

Would this preclude reporting issues with thte sample framework as separate 
bugs? I
found what appears to be a bug - the Camera class's view matrix is hard coded 
to use
+Y as the up-vector, causing cameras looking along the Y axis to display 
nothing!

You may file separate bugs for the sample framework. I'm closing this issue in 
favor
of issue 485.
