a lot of what we want to do with halpy would make more sense as slash commands than as bot messages. Advantages:

avoid polluting channels w/ halpy messages
no need to add halpy to channels before issuing ocmmands
potentially allow auto-generated messages (such as reminders) to come from real users rather than from halpy
