Create a visual EDGI timeline

I usually spend the first 20 minutes of a hacknight intro explaining the history of EDGI / Guerrilla Archiving. It always seems to do well to ground the later specifics of projects.

As it stands, this quick fly-through only seems possible when an EDGI member is available in-person. I wonder whether we might benefit from having some visual timeline for new people (or media) to cruise.

Resources

• Loomio uses "Tiki-Toki", a proprietary web-hosted timeline tool
• TimelineJS is an open source tool created by Knight Labs. It's basic usage renders conveniently from a Google Spreadsheet, which is nice.
• TimeGlider is one I've never used, but "trusted by" NASA, Wired and EPA ;) (Likely paid, though may be exceptions for non-profits.)

• [ ] Discuss value of a timeline.
• [ ] Investigate tool options.
• [ ] Decide on a tool.
• [ ] Create an MVP to share with SC and project teams.
• [ ] Create and assign role for maintaining timeline.
• [ ] Gather wider feedback on important milestones and events.

I think this might be a good idea as a couple-of-hours small project, potentially useful for onboarding (I would have liked one, and I think it might help other new contributors understand context). @lightandluck what do you think? Want to see if you & I could put something together in a working session?

Yea, let's chat about this sometime! The first steps of work I'm thinking of is getting events for each working group. I spent most of my time in WM, so not sure the history of other WGs
