Looks like rustup default stable needed.

It would depend:

If you use the rust package, no such command is needed.
If you use rustup, you should indeed setup a default toolchain, or override using rustup override set stable (although it should compile on any toolchain).

As the default is rust, I'm not sure if this should be fixed, as most people using the rustup command should know how it works.
