For the mailing list, Google groups also offer a subscription email address ( try shooting an email to editorconfig+subscribe@googlegroups.com
). Since the mailing list is public any way, as long as you don't visit their websites, there shouldn't be any real privacy issue. Do you agree? If you agree, I can put up the subscription email address for people who don't want to visit their website. For web archive without privacy harassment, unfortunately gmane has been shut down and I'm not sure when they will come out again.

I didn't know that, thanks for the explanation. If that's the case, then there shouldn't be any problem. For me that's more clear and what most people would expect from the term "mailing list".

Yes, that sounds good.
Today I discovered that I couldn't subscribe as the subscription website made by Google contains only JavaScript. The code is proprietary and we don't know what it does, so I wouldn't recommend anyone to execute it. A proper privacy-respecting mailing list which is accessible to everyone is the way to go.
@jorgesumle Have you tried to subscription email address listed on the website?
Yes, and after that I received a confirmation email.
But pressing the button doesn't have any effect, as webiste doesn't do anything with JavaScript disabled, I get this same message
@jorgesumle Interesting... Seems they have changed their system to enforce webpage visiting. Do you have any ideas to synchronize the old contents with a mailing list?
It would be nice to use a real mailing list (I mean using email). Google Groups doesn't work with JavaScript disabled and compromises the privacy of its users. In addition, Google Groups requires a Google Account, which not all people have. A plus if users are not tracked by Google Analytics.
