The Financial Industry Business Ontology (FIBO) defines the sets of things that are of interest in financial business applications and the ways that those things can relate to one another. In this way, FIBO can give meaning to any data (e.g., spreadsheets, relational databases, XML documents) that describe the business of finance.
There are some properties remaining in the Relations ontology that duplicate properties in Commons. There are also concepts in the Commons Dates and Times ontology that should replace those in the FIBO Financial Dates ontology. In addition, a few things in FIBO should be subclasses of concepts from Commons, such as jurisdiction, which should be a subclass of context, and contractual element, which should be a subclass of constituent.
