Hi,
I am facing the same problem as well,
all working fine while testing in windows mobile emulators 5 and 6,
but gears raises error with emulator 6.4.1
I have debug the gears_init.js,
and found that "factory.privateSetGlobalObject(this);" raises an error,
error description was "Failed to initialize google gears".
I hope gears developers help us to solve this issue,
atleast let us know the compatibility of gears with windows mobile 6.5
Regards,
dipak

Is there any further update on this? We are unable to get Google Gears to work
on
any device 6.1 or higher.

Hi
I have been too waiting for a respone.
We are developing a Mobile based browser application and using only gears
application.
I seems that the project is dead for win32, since there are no updates in SVN
since
June2008,
I have even downloaded the source and tried to build of my own but getting some
unknown error.
There is even other Guy who has posted about this. I think we can come together
to
find some solution for this.

It's really a shame that support for Google Gears is so poor on Windows Mobile.
Is your issue only relating to Win 6.5? Or are you having trouble with Windows
6.1 too?
For us, we have seen issues with Win 6.1 too.

Alon

I have developed the whole application using Gears database on 6.1WM
Professional
Emulator. The project is almost done and Now I am experiencing while deploying
and
testing in Client Mobile. The gears is not supported in few Mobiles even with
WM5,WM6,WM6.1
example It worked in Acer Mobile with 6.1 Prof , But its not working in HTC 6.1
Prof
The OEM makers are making some changes to the original WM6.1 Prof and selling
them
Is there any other way to have Javascript local database like Gears Sqlite.
We Silverlight for local storage but its not available for Mobile.
I think we have to build our own from the Gears Source code.

Interesting. Is there a list of Windows Mobile devices that work and ones that
dont?

The project seems to be be dead.
And the team seems to have stopped support For WM since June 2008, since there
no
updates to the code base since.
I even tried to build my own from the Gears SVN code base, but failed trough
several
errors.
For our current applications, the current version of Gears is OK with Opera
Mobile
Browser on WM6.1
(As a solution download OperaMobile, istall gears and you can run your
application.)
For future application development,As an alternative we are working using
HTML5.0
local storage specification.
As of now CHROME, Safari, Opera(latest versions, and betas) are supporting.
For further info you can check their corresponding websites.

Kiran, What version of operamobile did you use? I tried 9.5 and version 10 beta
2,
installed gears(for operamobile) but the samples do not work either version. Am
i
using the wrong version, or do we need a different gears_init.js for opera?
Thanks

Hi
We have our application on WM6.1 Professinal
For this we are installed opera_v9.5beta2_gears.cab for Opera browser.
After installing this browser download and install the Google gears from opera
browser.
(We are giving the above package as whole including opera browser, gears)
For future version of WM6.5 we are developing using HTML 5.0 database
support.(We are
still in development phase)

Hi Kiran,
We had to take the same approach. Here is a summary
Windows Mobile 6.0 - Google Gears works fine in IE
Windows Mobile 6.1+ - Google Gears requires opera Mobile 9.5 (interestingly the
latest Opera doesnt work).
I was interested in your comment regarding HTML 5. in WM6.5 . I wasnt aware
that WM
6.5 supported HTML 5 database. Do you have any sites or documents you can share
regarding this.
In Summary, it is clear that Google Gears is dead. Especially for mobile
development. I guess Google understands that HTML5 is the way of the future. I
just
wish we had known this before we commited ourselves to this technology.

Kiran, The cab file helped. It works. So does the WM6.5 support HTML5. I tried
with
emulator and it does not work for me. I cannot get even the localstorage to
work on the
WM6.5 IE. Thanks.

araskin,
You can have a look of its implentation from below link
http://experimenting.in/other/demo_websql.htm
You can check the code from view souce of the page.
In our project mobile is a part of the whole solution based on local storage.
We had our whole solution on Gears. Now we porting evthing using HTML5.
Right now we are porting the desktop UI using latest browsers of
Chrome,Opera,Safari.
Since we don't have any physical device available for WM6.5 and we haven't
stated yet
on porting Mobile UI
also we haven't come at that phase of project.
One thing sure that few months now there wil be many devices and browsers
availble
with HTML 5 support.
Because that's the future of web development.
You can start developing using a desktop browser(with screen fixed with mobile
screen
size),
the code will run automatically with few changes once mobile browsers are
available.

Hi Araskin,
We have good expertise in building Mobile applications using technology of the
future
i.e., HTML 5.
We are also aware of Mobile devices that can support these technologies. The
roadmap
for Mobile devices is exciting...
If you need something, we will be more than glad to help. Contact me offline on
