constant background service #131

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.start phone
2.look at background process(es)
3.be sad :(

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

no use of a background service, or at least an option to disable that.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

2.2 market release, latest one. galaxy nexus, running stock google 4.0.2

Please provide any additional information below.

the crittercism background service is running all the time. after starting up
android, there was another process, i killed it once, now it doesn't come back,
after opening NPR.
gonna reboot in a while, but i'm currently uploading photos.

i can provide logs, if needed.

i'm assuming the background process is to enable a background news update, i
got no interest in that. please at least provide an option to disable that.

Use LBE Privacy Guard to actually-disable app load on android boot

http://LBEsec.com

however, app spawning needless services is another matter entirely

BLOAT!

I haz sad too

We've included the Crittercism service to help us do some improved debugging.
Apparently it runs constantly. I'm not aware if there is a way for us to
implement service without using it this way. We can investigate sandboxing the
service to only start when the NPR app service is running.

would appreciate that, i also got some nasty force closes after ended calls.
uninstalled it for now, because i don't really use it and the annoying issues.

might gonna help you debug it, if wanted.

regarding lbe, no way i'm gonna install that. i don't install apps that are
free, with no revenue source, from anonymous dev's, w/ root access, from china
and closed source.
thanks though.
