Simply sync passwords to firefox password manager #11

Hi,

I just tried your app with a fresh instance of firefox. The first thing that came to my mind was...Is there any particular reason, why you decided against syncing with password manger? Form filling and managing UI is already available from stock. Additional advantage would be that already existent addons for password manager could be used. Palemoon could be supported.

Thank you for any feedback!

PS: I do understand that this might limit upcoming features around the passwords app. But I wanted to say that the step described above could save time to focus on other stuff e.g. bidirectional sync.

The idea was to provide easy access to your owncloud database and not store the passwords locally, although I admit the difference is marginal, especially if you save the owncloud credentials. Basically the idea was to make it work like LastPass.

I'll think about adding it as an additional option. However, this will not make it anymore compatible with palemoon.

Since 0.3.0 and passwords app 18 it is possible to save entered logins.

Using the firefox password manager wouldn't really save time, the only gain would be the filling algorithm which is already present.

Thank you for your response and sorry for my late reply.

I do not want to fight your current implementation. But I am looking into a serious replacement for firefox sync (this owncloud app is not maintained and deprecated). As it seems for now, there wont be another implemenation of firefox sync 1.5 and here is your app coming into game.

The firefox password manager has more features than your client has. I can browser passwords, copy usernames and, as already mentioned above, use firefox built-in form filling. I should mention here that I also use addons like "saved password editor" and "quick passwords". And there is even a very strong password generator.

To make your life easier, I supposed not to compete with these functionalities and simply supply the bullet proof sync of these passwords. Then...and only then all these features will shine as they did. And you do not need to rework all that available software for firefox.

To come to an end...I guess your app would be really great, if it could reliably and securely sync these passwords to owncloud. Working for desktop and phone.

PS: I also use firefox passwords manager for non-browser based passwords...
