Independent platform for posts,ideas, discussion and Q/A's. Sponsored Events, with Ads, could help with server rents. Developing the platform will be a Piece of Cake - i guess :D -. Archiving group posts to the platform. Etc..

This is a must-do, out current archive site is static, the search could be pretty much improved if we had a server side,

I think we can make the archive site dynamic to extend it as we wish.

There are some open source Stackoverflow clones out there and some of them are pretty good http://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/2267/stack-exchange-clones/37953#37953 The list has links to live demos to see what the site is like.

There are also UserVoice clones http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1576935/open-source-alternative-to-uservoice-or-get-satisfaction

Also, reddit is open source https://github.com/reddit/reddit

I understand that we might need multiple software but it's easier and faster and less risky than building our own.

We can just start undefined project! You will need to write the real problems we are facing now in our community and the proposal of resolving these problems otherwise we will get off topic very easy and it will be just a waste of time for the members who will start the project!

the proposal also must include a research on alternative solutions that already exist so we can see if we can adopt one and modify it instead of building ours from scratch.
