Remuco client fails on sony k750i with "invalid application" #23

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What is your environment?
* OS: Ubuntu Karmic
* Remuco version: 0.9.0-1
* Client device: sony k750i
* Player: rhythmbox

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install remuco-rhythmbox and activate plugin
2. Send remuco client to the phone
3. Start remuco client on the phone
4. The phone gives an error message "Invalid Application"

What is the expected behavior? What happens instead?
I was expecting to be a happy remuco user. Now it doesn't seem to work.
With a previous version of remuco it worked fine before.

Additional information:
I didn't try the PPA as it has the same version number as in Ubuntu Karmic.

Actually Remuco is known to work on the K750i (for instance see issue #12).

Which previous version worked for you? Also, please have a try with the latest
version (0.9.1.1 at the moment of this writing) you find in the download
section.

Besides that, did you accidentally sent the JAD file instead of the JAR file to
the
phone?

First of all thanks for your swift response. I really appreciate that.

> Actually Remuco is known to work on the K750i (for instance see issue #12).
Yes I know. I've used it and I really liked it.

> Which previous version worked for you?
Hmm.. I think it was in Ubuntu Hardy or Intrepid.

I tried it. Unfortunately immediately after uploading the jar file, i got
"Invalid
Application", even without starting it. Normally it would ask me first where i
want
to save it (applications/games).

Besides that, did you accidentally sent the JAD file instead of the JAR file to
the
phone?
No, I tried first with only the JAR. Afterwards I tried with sending both.
Should I
send both or just the JAR.

I would really love to get this work again. Could this be a permission setting
on the
phone?

I tried all of the previous remucos from sourceforge and unfortunately they all
failed with "invalid application". This gave me the idea that the way how
Ubuntu
transfers files might have been changed. (Besides that I am using the amd64
version,
but that should not have influence on the client, very maybe on the transfer
process.) So I tried another method. Instead of choosing "Transfer files" I
chose
"Open Device", which opens the phone in Nautilus. I placed remuco.jar in a
folder
(Other) on my phone. Than I navigated from my phone to the jar filed and
clicked on
the install option. I'm happy to say that this worked and now I am a happy
remuco
user again. Maybe you can add this to the FAQ or trouble shooting guide.

You can mark this issue as resolved. Remuco seems also improved from the last
time I
used. Keep up the good work.

A questions:
Fullscreen does not seem to work on the k750i, is there a way to enable it?

Some suggestions:
It would be nice to have a preview of all skins on the website.
Make it possible that the cover art stays big across playing of songs.

Happy to hear it works now ..

In Jaunty, sending the JAR to the phone in Nautilus by selecting _Send To.._ in
the
JAR's context menu works pretty well. I'll check that process in Karmic later.

Setting the client UI into fullscreen mode is not yet possible. You could open a
feature request for that - as well as for the other 2 suggestions, thanks.

Bluetooth in Karmic has changed a lot compared to Karmic. What concerns the UI,
it is
a huge usability improvement. It is much better. I don't know if there is a
regression
in the core functionality so that sending doesn't work anymore. Anyway, remuco
is now
a very *valid* application ;-)

How did you manage to make it work?

I think the problem was how the JAR file gets transferred from the PC to the
phone
and the solution is mentioned in comment 4:

Instead of choosing "Transfer files" I chose "Open Device", which opens the
phone in Nautilus. I placed remuco.jar in a folder (Other) on my phone. Than I
navigated from my phone to the jar filed and clicked on the install option.
