Occasionally when entering VATS Lootman causes a crash. After this crash happens the previous save doesn't want to load. Disabling Lootman will allow the last save to load and then afterwards Lootman can be enabled again.

Have Lootman enabled
Use loot to player
Enter VATS (intermittent game freeze resulting in CTD)
