Error: ASN1 string length does not match C string length. Embedded null character ? #18

Happens when the certificate contains an umlaut (at least in the City field).

openssl s_client -connect shows:

depth=0 C = DE, ST = Nordrhein-Westfalen, L = D\C3\BCsseldorf, O = ...
