Channel Installer error "ahbprot not installed" #635

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
When i try to install the new Channel Installer a message prompt me that
ahbprot is not installed. I have Homebrew Channel v1.0.8 running on IOS58 (as
far as I know this IOS is used for ahbprot) on a PAL Wii firmware 4.3E and i
also have installed fceultra-gx and vba-gx channels without problems.

Quick question, installing a channel isn't like installing a Wad file, right?

yes it's the same thing, WAD is just a package format it doesn't define what's
inside.

I thought they were dangerous is the jpeg banner was the wrong size; I assume I
wouldn't have to worry about this.

Sure, if the channel is incorrectly you could get a "banner brick". but do you
think I would release a channel, in a packaged installer, without installing it
myself to make sure it works? :)

I'm not accusing you of doing anything like that (sheesh), it's just there are
numerous illegal WADs on the internet (for SNES, N64, etc) and, well, that sort
of thing essentially ruined WADs as a whole for me. I'll give it a shot later
on.

By the way, does installing a channel on the Wii System Menu (as opposed to
going via the HBC) bypass the infamous libogc tinny audio glitch?

I'm not sure.

I know this is probably a stupid question, I know the whole idea behind
emulator channels/forwarders is to bypass loading from the HBC but as to what
the actual version you're running is irrelevant, right? What I mean is, the
channel still loads, irrespective to what version you're running off the SD
card, right?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but maybe this answers it: the forwarder
just loads /apps/snes9xgx/boot.dol, it doesn't check anything about what that
file is.

Okay, so what you're is that it doesn't matter what the Snes9xgx version is, so
long as the boot.dol file on the SD card, and that the channel is just a
shortcut of sorts, right? Sorry if I worded my previous strangely, I have a
tendency to confuse people (just ask my brother) :D
