Reasonable feature idea, but going to close for now for these reasons (with suggestions for re-open after meeting some of the criteria below):

If you'd like to re-open this, please indicate whether you're running this version in production now on a fork, and whether you'd be able to conduct production verification test of this change were it to be introduced as a new gem version.
