3 months ago if it receives traffic component cannot just ignore it, checked that and i couldn't reproduce it locally, there are devices that are mostly consume traffic not publishing, in that case, the device would appear as offline although it is online. what is the use case that you are trying to use that sensor?
For some unknown reason my phone show as home even when it is away or disconnected from the local network. From my understanding the sensor show it as away if there is no traffic for 180s. But even when disconnected there is some received traffic which makes the sensor timeout reset. The RX traffic increase both in the HA sensor and in the router Traffic Analysis. I think a "enhancement" would be needed so that only if the TX/Sent traffic change, the device should be considered as home.
