Revert "reduce resource usage" #113

Reverts elastic/elastic-agent-system-metrics#103 because it's breaking on Windows and MacOS. Unfortunately CI was not blocking PRs when elastic/elastic-agent-system-metrics#103 was created and we missed this issue.
