[Observability UI] Bug: Overview – Data check shows as completed for logs despite it being for Cloud deployment logs only #150488

Open formgeist opened 1 year ago

formgeist commented 1 year ago

Kibana version:

8.6.0+

Original install method (e.g. download page, yum, from source, etc.):

Cloud deployment (through staging)

Description of the problem including expected versus actual behavior:

The Overview page and Logs stream UIs should emphasize that the user needs to install any logs integration to ingest and view logs in Observability. It appears as though the Cloud deployment logs are part of the initial data check, although not available to view in the Logs UI nor Discover.

CleanShot 2023-02-07 at 21 36 02@2x CleanShot 2023-02-07 at 21 36 09@2x CleanShot 2023-02-07 at 21 35 24@2x

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create 8.6.0+ deployment
  2. Skip the integrations and go directly to Observability
  3. The overview page will display the Logs panel as available + the data assistant check will show ✅

@afgomez I would reach out to you, but please let me know if you want to pass this on to someone else, but currently I don't see any UI engineering ownership of the Overview page in particular. cc @jasonrhodes

That's correct, @formgeist -- there is no direct ownership of the overview section besides the idea that it's owned by all of Observability. I'd post the ticket in the UI channel for visibility for now.
