unparsable es logs need to be handled better #16

Currently, the output from es logs that are handles poorly and regularly cause very messy output. We should try to handle those situations a bit better.

These log messages regularly happen when stack traces are logged (for instance) and the messy output really distracts from the message.

We fixed this at some recent point.
