Translations for the new zones in India #4782

Open VIKTORVAV99 opened 1 year ago

VIKTORVAV99 commented 1 year ago

We recently added new zones for India that represent the power grids instead of the states, this mean we are lacking translations for the new zones.

Language tracker of missing translations:

Note I will be using this issue as a tracker and won't assign the whole issue to any one individual.

Hi @Cor4zon!

I'm going to use this issue to track all languages so think I'll assign anyone to the whole issue so if you could just tell me what languages you would to translate I'll add a note to those.

Just a small note as well: We strive for the translations to be as authentic as possible so only translate those you feel comfortable doing without translation software like Google translate.

What are the names in the native language(s)? Is it like "West India" or "India (West)" or "West Indian Grid" or "West Indian System" or "West Indian ISO" or...?

Good question... 😅

@mathilde-daugy do you know the native/original names for these zones?

They are called the Northern, Eastern, Western, North Eastern and Southern Grids. We should indicate this as the Northern, Southern ... regions don't necessarily include the same states

VIKTORVAV99 commented 1 year ago

Then I think we can do North India, Northeast India, etc for the English translations.

I realise that I didn't make myself clear. I think we should make it clear that it is the power grid because the administrative regions (eg North India, South India ...) do not have the same definitions. some states might be in one grid but not one region

I think that's fine though, we use grids or bidding areas for most other countries and there are some overlap between different regions in those.

You are more than welcome to do the Hondo translation! I don't think there is a English version yet either so if you want to do that as well it would be great.

Hi there I'd like to participate for the spanish translations, but I really don't understand how to do it, i take a look at the merge 4943 that's mentioned here but really don't get it. So if you could guide me where to start or lookup to complete the task would be appreciate it

Hi!

What is done in #4943 is pretty straight forward.

  1. First you need to open the correct language file for the language you want to translate, these are located at: web/public/locales
  2. Once the correct language file is located you need to either add the zone key or add the zone key for the country/zone you want to translate.
  3. For countries you need just need to add the translated zone name as the zoneName (inside the zonkey object), if it is a sub zone of a country you need to add the zoneName and countryName.

It should look something like this:

{
//...
  "zoneShortName": {
  //...
    "BR-CS": {
      "countryName": "Brasilien",
      "zoneName": "Centrala Brasilien"
    },
  //...
  }
}

hey there! id like to help with the italian translation, although i saw theres already an italian json that contains the translation for the whole website, but it is not possible to choose it once youre on the actual website, am i missing something or can i help with something else regarding this?

jarek commented 9 months ago

If you're on desktop, the language list is scrollable, and has Italian about halfway down the scroll.

(We should probably make the language list take up as much vertical space as available when on desktop, sorry about that!)

i havent notice that, indeed i was on desktop, however i think it would better to make the scrollbar white so that can be more visible to the users what do you think? i can add a separate branch and make the change, what do you think?

Hi!

I suggest you open a new issue for this so it can be discussed in its own right and be referenced later on.

kmr-ankitt commented 1 month ago

I can do this very well.
