the idea is to allow more and more players by starting stepmania several times and syncing the song-selection UI with other instances through shared memmory, this way we can allow up to 8 players with 2 beamers and up to 12 players with 3 beamers. do make sure to keep an instance count and use different configs for each instance to avoid grabbing double input.
