Feature Request: Integrate with Android Contacts #1708

Currently, contact management in Element is extremely limited. It should be possible to link Matrix contacts to contacts from the Android system and vice versa. This is supported by other popular messengers such as WhatsApp and Threema.

If you have an identity server configured, you can see your contacts and their corresponding matrix Id when creating a room or when inviting people to a room. But yes, we have to work on that to improve the UX

I would love to see this. Most importantly, I would like to see the person's real name show up instead of their matrix username in chats. I'm in chats on Matrix where I know most of the people, and even have their phone numbers, but I can never remember these bizarre usernames.

I don't really even care if it integrates with Android Contacts. I'd just like to see an "alias" feature so I can set an "alias" so instead of seeing some random username, I see "Bob Smith".

It would also be nice if these contacts/aliases could be shared on the desktop version as well.
