I also wonder why this essential feature does not have a high prio 🤷♂️
Looks like the lack of good, mature clients for Matrix will force me to switch to protocols such as XMPP.
Is there any update on this? I find it weird that we can search unencrypted rooms but not in encrypted ones.

I think the search happens currently on the server-side. Since the server does (and should) not have the e2ee-keys, this implementation cannot be used. So to search locally, the client needs to fetch the complete history first and then search locally through the decrypted history.
The missing search functionality in encrypted chats is IMHO the only major feature lack. Please put high priority on this and keep up the great work 🙏
Secure cache and message search is a part of desktop Element and this feature is sorely missed in the android version.
Any update on this ticket ? Maybe it's possible to start create a index (starting by the last 7 days for example).
How come we don't have such an essential feature?

Because of very bad Product Management :-( Imagine its 2023 and this core Feature isnt available.
Hopefully it will come to Element X
Its 2024 and this is still unavailable in android. I get a push notification telling me I was mentioned in a busy room, and I have no way to find out where!

The technology of our civilization hasn't advanced enough to unencrypt messages and search them on a mobile cellular device. Maybe in 2030
Maybe everything will be good with Element X.

Unfortunately not. After being dissatisfied with Element, and hearing that Element X was the new cool thing, I moved to Element X and used it for a year or two. But it (too) is far from ready and has so many issues that I eventually switched back to Element. I've been hoping for years now to to see Matrix/Element becoming something great, but it's almost hopeless to use as a messaging service. I have a very high threshold for what I can tolerate with immature tech, but even I have to admit defeat. I'm moving on to other messaging services, however sad that is.
hello! any update about this? is there already an estimate on when we can expect this?
i think it’s an important missing feature.
thanks and keep up the good work! 👍
