Cannot join room on Dendrite homeserver #3513

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

Register a dendrite.matrix.org account
Try to join #dendrite:matrix.org
Pops up the error "User part contains invalid characters"

Expected behavior

User joins the room successfully.

Device: Google Pixel 4a (5G)
OS: Android 11

Additional context

App version and store: 1.1.9 [40101092] (G-b2485) Google Play store beta
Homeserver: dendrite.matrix.org

Add any other context about the problem here.

Only joining to some rooms fail, but can join some other rooms

Sorry. I opened the issue in the wrong repository since it is not an Element Android issue. Moving to matrix-org/gomatrixserverlib instead.
