Sending image is slow #7616

Steps to reproduce

  1. Share a photo from Gallery to Element Room (self hosted)
  2. Element starts uploading, says 'Waiting/Sending Message'.

Outcome

What happened instead?

Element continues to say waiting and takes several minutes to upload.

Rage shake uploaded with title 'sending image is slow'

Sharing the same image to fluffychat is instant with the same homeserver.

I've been facing this issue as well for couple of months now, but I'm not 100% sure if the issue is exactly the same I'm having:

If I share some media (photo or video) from my gallery, or if I share some media from Element and select the destination app to be Element, it keeps loading the list of my rooms / p2p chats for a while (like 10 seconds) before I can select the room to where I want to share the item (earlier it wasn't that slow). After that dialog, everything works fast and the actual media upload finishes quickly.

I tested also with another account, which is not joined into so many rooms: the loading phase is a bit faster, but it still keeps loading couple of dozens different rooms for almost 10 seconds, which is quite weird...

This also happens to me. Sometimes the upload fails and the retry button does never work. Downloading the images is sometimes very slow as well.

But if I use other tool as "tut", the upload is instantaneous.
