Desktop audio share for Element Call #685

Open rotmoded opened 1 year ago

Your use case

It would be nice to be able to share your desktop audio along with your desktop video when screensharing, e.g. for watching videos with people.

Have you considered any alternatives?

We already support sharing tab audio in the web version of Element Call

The Electron documentation claims this should work but I am getting Enabling screensharing error DOMException: Could not start audio source. Also, if it did work, we would probably need to request the audio and video separately as we can only request the audio from the whole desktop

This is the biggest barrier to me being able to talk people into using Element. I am curious why this issue was marked as archived in the issue triage without being resolved.

I'd like to know that as well.

@kazin-essen because the triager did their job and it got triaged.

I am not sure I understand what you mean? Perhaps I missed something, the issue has not fully been resolved correct? Forgive me, I'm new so please don't assume I understand all the ins and outs.

@kazin-essen you may wish to look up the definition of triage - https://www.google.com/search?q=triage&si=AMnBZoFgv3j24YeLEV-qyfUcM2ZMqkxqaKobJlR97Bo25lEAtkTHXOJ2QAWtymObdvrJCGA9ZJ_VtWqV1tB8vcakkpuAGhC5yg%3D%3D&expnd=1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjZz5WIirT-AhXGi1wKHcaqAOUQ2v4IegQIDxAV&biw=1706&bih=968&dpr=2

Ok that was rude. I no longer wish to carry on this convo with you. Please have a nice day.

@kazin-essen because the triager did their job and it got triaged.

I am curious to know how such an integral feature gets "triaged" exactly and why this isn't then marked as wontfix or similiar.
