Tray icon and app icon disappear after standby #767

Open miro-janosik opened 3 years ago

miro-janosik commented 3 years ago

Description

Tray icon and app icon disappear after computer waking up from standby, but only 25% of wakeups cause this. Computer wakes up, and Element app icon + tray icon is gone. Screenshot would show only a blank space where the icon should be (space is still taken). Other running programs/tray icons are not affected.

When new message is received and icon should change to show number of new messages it still keeps invisible, so I don't see when new messages arrive.

Steps to reproduce

This bug is hard to reproduce for me, as it happens only sometimes. I tried to run Element in console but nothing special was printed out.

Sent app logs to the current issue - https://github.com/vector-im/element-desktop/issues/767

Issue persists over a year later. Element is the only application I use that does this.

Image of invisible icon (circled in yellow; button still works, just transparent):

OS: vanilla Ubuntu 22.04 GPU: Nvidia GTX 970 with proprietary driver 515.65.01 Element version: 1.11.13 Olm version: 3.2.12

I tried to submit logs to this issue from the app, not sure if it did anything.

I started to have the same problem on Debian 11. Common point is nVidia display: I'm runnig proprietary 470.161.03-1. On m other systems with integrated Intel graphics I don't see this happening.

I notice that often when the tray icon disappears, the main Element window will become invisible except the title bar at the top, but not always. And neither issues always occurs after resuming from suspend. Not sure if this info helps, but in case devs can't reproduce maybe it can help related it to another more reproduceable issue.

BTW, this issue never occurs on my laptop which is hybrid Intel / Nvidia, but occurs on all my Nvidia desktops. All my systems run Ubuntu 22.04. I don't have a non-Nvidia desktop to compare against.
