Allow creation of unencrypted direct chats #3782

deni commented 4 years ago

Upon starting a new direct chat, encryption is automatically enabled.

If the setting "Never send messages to untrusted sessions" is enabled, the recipient will receive undecryptable messages.

Is your desire identical to "http://github.com/vector-im/element-web/issues/16827" but for iOS?

Hi @BEEDELLROKEJULIANLOCKHART, It would seem so. Thanks for bringing that up.

A concrete example that I currently have: there doesn't seem to be a direct liberachat bot (NickServ) that I can talk to within matrix, so I have to access it over the bridge directly @NickServ:libera.chat (@nickserv-:matrix.org). The problem with this is that element will only open an encrypted chat, and the bot simply won't receive anything. So I cannot register to liberachat. This isn't the case for freenode/soonet, for example (e.g. @_snoonet_NickServ:matrix.org)

@lethargosapatheia Can you work around this by creating an unencrypted room and inviting the bot into that room? You can convert rooms to DMs by long pressing on the home screen if that helps organise things the way you like.
