Finding new messages in Threads can be hard

Steps to reproduce

1. Enable threads in labs
2. Get a new threaded message sent to a room that is not muted

Outcome

What did you expect?

There is an indicator for a new message at the thread icon

What happened instead?

• The room list said that I have a new message
• When I opened the room I couldn’t find any new message at the bottom
• When I scrolled up an indicator appeared signalling that there should be a new message at the bottom of the timeline (which was not there)
• There was no indication for a new message in a thread

I actually had to open another client to find that message.

Oh apparently there is an indicator when I get mentioned or get a reply in a thread, as I just saw. But when I selected to get a notification for every message in that room, I expect to see that indicator for every new message in that thread.

By design, you’re supposed to be notified when mentioned, or replied in a thread you participated. We’ll try to improve notifications for threads in near future.
