Lack of granularity in "Messages sent by bot" notification option. Unable to disable bot notifications in group chats but not DMs or vice versa #20593

What would you like to do?

Be able to allow bots to ping me in a DM, but follow the notification options of any other user in a group chat.

Why would you like to do it?

Roughly the same reasons as I'd want pings from users in DMs but not necessarily from group chats unless I'm mentioned.

How would you like to achieve it?

Unsure. I'm not sure if this is a protocol level issue or not, now that I think about it (at the time of editing the issue).

Can you please use the Enhancement template for this? This is unlikely to get picked up as it's quite hard to understand what the expected outcome is.

In Room Settings -> Notifications, does choosing All messages in DMs not suffice for your case? Admittedly it's a bit tedious if you have many bot DMs, but...

"All Messages" does not effect bot notifications with the msgtype m.notice

I think that m.notice message types should be set on per-room, but also per-bot/user as I may want to receive notices from a particular bot, but not from every bot in a room.

As it stands now, I have the choice of geting noisy notifications from ALL bots in ALL rooms, or none at all.
