Can’t backpaginate a room with a bunch of EC signalling #3476

Steps to reproduce

tried to view a room full of voip calls
couldn’t: it started with “this is the beginning of the room” and then later showed a “call started” timeline item. but never loaded the history

Outcome

What did you expect?

even if a room has a bunch of invisible events the timeline should still load, showing a spinner if it is stuck trying

What happened instead?

spurious and confusing “this is the beginning of $name” timeline entry
no loading spinner
timeline never loaded anyway
