I feel that it is a bit weird that locking the screen does not instantly transition the user into the locked state. Instead, I still see my desktop for a few seconds.
It is not a good UX, because the user cannot be sure if the keyboard combination worked or not during these few seconds. I usually lock the screen when I intend to go away. It would be much better if I could instantly see that my LOCK command worked.
If the OS cannot be locked immediately, at least there should be some indication that the command was invoked properly.
