The linux-oem metapackage is maintained by Canonical and often ships a newer kernel, updated firmware and microcode, etc. for newer hardware platforms, i.e. from Dell. It would be interesting to see if this is a package we could always ship (and move this issue to the OS repo), or if we should do some hardware detection in the installer in optionally install it on the target system.
