Payment Option: Paypal #1441

Recently received an email from the dudes at Paddle. It seems a bit more expensive than Stripe, but they do offer PayPal so it might be worth investigating more thoroughly. We should see who's using it, check out reviews, see if it's considered safe, compare security practices with Stripe, etc. Weigh the pros and cons

@danrabbit Just a question, but why did you choose not to add PayPal donations directly?

lewisgoddard commented 8 years ago

@varanauskas There is a PayPal option, but they take way more percentage and can't be integrated as easily. They also accept customers from far fewer countries, so Stripe was our go to. See https://elementary.io/get-involved#funding and https://github.com/elementary/website/issues/624

FYI Braintree Payments offers the same pricing as Stripe on cards and then Paypal as an additional bit. Should be roughly the same pricing on the Paypal end as normal cards. Might be worth looking into that.

IMO Paddle pricing is a bit "up there" for businesses. I don't see any real benefit to going there vs Braintree if you want easy Paypal integration.

I'm going to close this since we haven't made any changes towards this in several years and Stripe checkout supports apple and google pay, bank transfer, etc
