I'm experiencing the same issue on MacOS Sonoma 14.1.1 (23B81) with Firefox Developer Edition 120.0b9 (64-bit) and Safari version 17.1 (19616.2.9.11.7). I'm unable to edit anything with Elementor not only for the high CPU rate, but because every element needs more than 2 minutes to load.
However, I'm experiencing the same issue on iPadOS 17.1.1. Could be possible that the version of WordPress or other plugins are affecting too? This is my information:
Thank you in advance.
Same, having this happen in every browser on macOS, makes Elementor basically intolerable to use currently.
I'm still on Ventura at work, but the editor (latest version) got extremely slow for me as well since a few days.
Will we get an answer? Guys, this is a serious issue.
Same problem here. MacBook Pro M1 with Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Working with elementor is horrible at the moment. But i cant see high CPU usage -> it's just very very slow.
Maybe the dev team will tell to us now, that we have to wait for 3.18 and disable unused widgets to get a better editor performance. This will be the biggest joke.
Please open support tickets!
In the meantime I tried rolling back to E 3.17.1, WP 6.3 and deactivating all other plugins. Didn't help! Even deactivating the "nested elements" function isn't the solution.
macOS Ventura on iMac 27" 2019 with Intel Core i5 here.

+1 on Windows Firefox, unusable. I wait 50 seconds to to open the editor + i can't save at the end.
Specs: Windows 10 Cpu: i7-9700k Ram: 32GB.
Should be enough not to break my laptop. As for the server, i'm working on a VPS: 16gb ram 8 cores. Website is basic, 10-12 sections + animations.
On chrome it works properly..
@nicholaszein any information about this? When is an update/hotfix expected?
Thanks.

Hi,
I am also having problems with Firefox loading the Elementor editor.
The load time I last recorded was 01:03.79 to load the editor fully.
I am currently on the following operating system and browser:
Mac mini 2018: 3Ghz - 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5 Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB 32 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
MacOS Sonoma Version 14.0 (23A344) Mozilla Firefox Version 120.0 (64-bit)
I am using both Elementor (Version 3.17.3) and Elementor Pro (Version 3.17.1).
I can confirm that I have cleared the browser and hosting cache.
I can also confirm our hosting server uses PHP 8.2 and has 1024MB of memory.
Here is an export of our system information:
Hi,
got the same issue, the Elementor editor is loading very slow (around 30-50sec). I'm using the latest Elementor version 3.17.3 and Wordpress 6.4.1
I've made in the past a lot of wordpress/elementor websites, it's everywhere very slow.
Working on a Mac Pro (Late 2013) mac OS 12.7.1
System info:
+1 Same issue.
More persistent on pages with more elements.
there is a PR already in case someone wants to test it: https://github.com/elementor/elementor/pull/24406
@m1ga this fixes the loading issues, however not the saving issues. Since the last update, beside to unusable builder, i'm not able to save any medium to high complexity page. As stated before-> Firefox, windows 10, i7 9700k, 32gb ram/ 500mb internet.
Tried on different servers (shared/vps/dedicated). all the same problem.
+1 for E, E Pro M1 Mac with Firefox, Firefox developers ed, Safari. Huge CPU spike and editor is super laggy and unusable. Better in Chrome but still not great.
I also have this issue. I use Linux, specifically KDE Neon 22.04 with Firefox v120.
Any ETA on a fix or even an update, it's quite unusable. 1:22 secs to open a page. Intel and M2 Macs, Firefox, Safari. Sites hosted WP-Engine, Sitesground and ionos
Hello everyone, we have an update on this issue!
We are almost ready to release Elementor 3.18-beta4, which will include a fix for this issue.
I'll update you when the new beta is released and would appreciate it if you could test it so we can ensure it's fixed for everyone.
Of course, please do it in a staging environment.
Elementor 3.18 is expected to be released on December, 4th, 2023.
Thank you for sharing your feedback and for being so patient! 🙏
Thank you for the update on this issue.
The current slowdown and delayed response in Elementor's edit mode are severely hindering our ability to work effectively. Considering the urgency of this matter, I kindly request that this fix be prioritized in a minor update rather than waiting for the major release in December.
Quick resolution would greatly assist in restoring our productivity. Thank you for your understanding and prompt attention to this critical matter.
I agree with @ijjimem! With Elementor 3.18 we have to wait another week, then maybe new bug fixes and addons to be compatible again before we can continue proper work on production sites.
Thanks for the info @nicholaszein nevertheless!
@pumadog I've just edited the file myself (add the two lines of code) and then you can wait for a 3.18 release
@m1ga did it solve the saveing issue for you? I added the two lines myself, builder loads faster but still i'm unable to save a 20 containers page.
@salbatyku I never had any saving issues and your comment is the only that mentions saving in here. So it might be a different issue and not related to this issue.
Hey everyone,
Elementor 3.18-beta4 is out, and it includes a fix for this issue.
If you can, please test it out on a staging environment and let us know if everything is working correctly for you. We want to ensure everything works as expected before releasing this fix for everyone.
We want to avoid causing further issues before releasing this fix, this is why it's only going to be released on December, 4th (expected) next week with the release of 3.18.0 Core.
Please note that this fix covers only performance issues affecting MacOS Browsers. This does not cover any lowness you might experience with some Nested Elements. These have been improved recently, but there are still some improvements to be made in a future version.
Kind regards
Hello, caught your comment late of Facebook @nicholaszein.
I've been working with Siteground to optimise my cloud setup as we saw high cpu usage. It's cost me a small fortune in upgrades across 40 websites :-(
Turns out Elementor had a bug. Hence this thread I assume.
I use Win 11, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera. All same slowness experienced. Always in the editor between switching from templates and global.
As a user of E Pro since launch, it's really upset me to experience this. I keep my setups identical, using Hello, plugin stacks of premium plugins, always the same. Never ever had any issues until this latest update.
I've been a beta tester for year's too.
I speak and recommend Elementor other all others but this show down has caused delays in my workflow to a point where I have........ considered moving away! :-(
I'm hoping the latest updates will solve it.
My upgrades have had a small impact but it's still not as zippy as it once was.
Hi @bhambrabland,
Thank you for your feedback! I'm really sorry for the inconvenience this issue may have caused.
I hope the fix for this issue will solve it for you.
@nicholaszein wouldn't it be good the have a 3.17.x release in the meantime with those two lines added to the editor script? That minor update would spread quicker and is easier for people as a full 3.18.0 update (many people wait a few days for 3.18.1 or 3.18.2)
@m1ga thanks for the suggestion.
However, there will be no further 3.17.x releases.
This fix will be released with version 3.18.0.
@nicholaszein Thank you for the update on the upcoming 3.18.0 release.
I understand that no further 3.17.x releases are planned, but I'd like to draw attention to ongoing performance issues that have arisen within the same timeframe as the original bug.
Specifically, the 'Responsive Mode' in the Elementor editor is still experiencing significant lag, with slow display and response times in the whole editor. This, along with general loading issues, is impacting our workflow efficiency.
Could these related performance concerns be addressed alongside the main issue in the 3.18.0 update? Addressing them comprehensively would greatly enhance overall usability and productivity.
Thank you for considering this request.
@ijjimem, thanks for the comment! 🙏
are you reporting that this is happening with the 3.18-beta4 version? Or are you reporting this is an ongoing issue you are experiencing yourself?
Keep in mind the fix only covers this issue, not others. If you are experiencing any other issues and can reproduce them consistently after troubleshooting them, please submit a new Bug Report so we can take a proper look at your problem. We can't track multiple different bugs in the same issue.
Kind regards
Hi everyone, I've managed to grab some time this morning and created a staging site to test the 3.18-beta4 version. FYI- it's on a dedicated WP-Engine server. Editing environment a 2018 Intel Mac Book Pro using Safari 17.12.
With two windows open, one running E 3.17.3 and the other running E 3.18-beta4, I clicked on same page simultaneously.
I'm pleased to report 3.18 version opened first, with 3.17.3 about 20/30 secs longer. I then added 10 random Elementor widgets, amended content and clicked "Publish" and no lag. For me it's an improvement.
Having said that I can understand everyone's frustration, as it's been an infuriating few weeks developing our Elementor sites. 🤯
Have a great weekend, best Brian
+1 same issue from me, it's too lag and eats all cpu
@nicholaszein why did you revert the fix in 3.18.1 again? I can see that there are two other open PR that fixes the slowness in a different way but 3.18.1 makes Firefox slow again (3.18.0 was better).
Hello, great that elementor is continually developing and evolving. Thank you.
And yes, I also experience the lag in speed and thought that with todays update another more stable fix maybe made the speed issue fix obsolete when seeing it was reverted.
I always update only when there are x.xx.x1 follow-up versions of the plugins available. especially for elementor. But now the version 3.18.1 is the same as 3.17.3, speed wise.
Best regards
@nicholaszein why was the fix reverted? When can we expect a new solution?
I can confirm it. In version 3.18.1, the error has returned. I can no longer use Elementor on my system (Linux, KDE NEON 22.04 with Firefox). I can only use it with Chrome.
Is there a known release date to fix this error? It's practically unusable.
Elementor is unusable in Firefox
Yeah, I saw a speed increase and back to being slow again.
From a productivity viewpoint, for those of us who zip through builds and custom CSS work, the editor switch and hanging is really unusable. :-(
It's a nightmare. I'm.experiencing this in Chrome, but do see it in Firefox too.
Why has the fix to this been reverted in the 3.18.1 update, 3.18.0 was working fine? Using Elementors interface is once again a giant pain in the backside. DO NOT UPGRADE TO 13.18.1. I love Elementor, but please get this sorted ASAP.
Hey everyone, I hope this message finds you well.
I'm sorry for the delay. I wanted to get the correct information before explaining what happened.
As you can see, we reverted the fix for this issue we introduced in version 3.18.0 on version 3.18.1.
After troubleshooting we discovered that the wp-polyfill
script was the root cause of the slowness when using Safari, and Firefox browsers on MacOS machines. This script exists to add JS functionality that is not available in older browsers and might be used by some plugins and themes in the WordPress ecosystem. This is a Core WordPress script and is loaded by default. Elementor not only doesn't need to use this script, but it also does not support the browsers this script is meant to be used on anymore. However, this script is still used in specific cases, usually as a dependency of other scripts, which makes it difficult to identify when it is in use. Nonetheless, it proved to be causing performance issues with MacOS browsers.
Our fix was to deregister this legacy script before the editor scripts were loaded to avoid it from causing high CPU usage on browsers that don't need it at all, and then registering it again. It worked as expected and prevented the slowness on these browsers.
After the release of 3.18.0, the team at Yoast reached out to report that they were receiving multiple reports of it completely breaking their plugin compatibility. Unfortunately, they did not reach out before the final release to report the issue, otherwise, we would have delayed it until we found a better solution. We also received multiple reports from our shared users through the CX department, proving this would end up causing more problems than solving the issue.
Since this was affecting both our customers, making the use of both plugins impossible for a significant part of them, we decided to revert this fix and find something that does not affect the usage of the wp-polyfill
from other plugins that still rely on it. By deregistering and then registering the script again, we changed the order in which it was loaded, and other plugins like Yoast were not working correctly because the script was loading when it shouldn't and conflicting with other scripts.
We are currently working on an alternative to fix this issue that doesn't involve deregistering the wp-polyfill
script in the way we did and will require another approach to fixing this issue. As soon as it is fixed and thoroughly tested, we will release a new version of Elementor with it. We are aiming to release this with Elementor 3.18.3, but please, be patient. This timeline may change as we make further tests. 3.18.3 should be released at the start of the next week.
[Edit]: We are currently working on other equally important fixes, and the new fix for this issue might be delayed another week, or released with Elementor 3.18.2. We are not sure yet. I'll have more info at the beginning of the next week.
We apologize for the inconvenience this might have caused, and we thank you for your patience. 🙏
As a workaround, please temporarily switch to using Chromium-based browsers until we can fix this issue.
Kind regards
Thank you for the explanation Nicolas
@nicholaszein
Emphasize that it also occurs in Linux with Firefox (latest version).
Thank you for the feedback @ssergio-ll!
🙏
Thanks for the info! So I'll stay on 3.18.0 or 3.16.x until it's solved. I don't use Yoast anywhere. Can you provide a list of known affected plugins?
@pumadog @bhambrabland @webdevs-pro For those, who do not use YOAST and do not suffer any breaks (like me), keep on going in OS X with this quick fix: https://github.com/elementor/elementor/commit/188634b1824417050cfe0b1c85a8cac153063786
in core/editor/editor.php
after line 345 add these lines
// Remove polyfill script
// See: https://github.com/elementor/elementor/issues/24260
$wp_scripts->remove( 'wp-polyfill' );
$wp_scripts->add( 'wp-polyfill', '' );
@pumadog,
the only plugin we have in our reports that has been affected by this change is Yoast. We have no records of other plugins affected. But this doesn't mean there aren't other plugins affected. Unfortunately, it's impossible to check and test all plugins available.
Prerequisites
Description
Problem Summary: When using Elementor in edit mode on any page or website in the latest version of Safari on macOS Sonoma, the CPU usage exceeds 100%, leading to significant performance degradation. This manifests as a delay in registering user inputs, with actions like clicks taking over 5 seconds to respond.
Expected Behavior: Normally, while editing pages with Elementor, the browser should maintain a reasonable level of CPU usage, ensuring smooth and responsive interactions with the editing interface.
Actual Behavior: In this case, the CPU usage spikes dramatically when Elementor is in edit mode. This excessive CPU consumption slows down Safari considerably, leading to a delayed response to user inputs in the Elementor editor. Such lag significantly hampers the user experience, making page editing inefficient and frustrating.
