Subpage template and design #7

The recipe and blog templates will probably be a bit different for the main content region, but I imagine there will be some blocks on the right/left sidebar that would be the same.

kostajh commented 10 years ago

per #2 and #3 we just need one subpage template and design.

I have posted an initial sketch of the recipe/blog template, which is available in the latest Design branch. Right now it includes the following features:

Right now I'm going for the style of a clean, nicely-illustrated cookbook. Please let me know what you think. I believe that wherever possible we should use images to make this a visually engaging food blog, but let me know if including a cover image with most recipe posts is not realistic and I'll alter the design.

@eleniharlan how does this page look to you? http://elenijr.net/recipe/imam-biyaldi/ please provide feedback for changes that @egardner or I can make.

hi both,

there seem to be some formatting issues- see attached screenshot.

I agree making the splash image smaller was a good idea. I don't think anyone's doing anything with the fonts etc. but I'm not crazy about the current ones... also I wonder if it would be worth using a smaller font size for the ingredients list on the right hand side, and also making some formatting distinction for the recipe section ie that it's indented or presented a bit differently?

Other than that it looks good. Look forward to seeing the home page! I'll write a new post on the weekend :)

Eleni

p.s. I also tried to open the link on my phone and it didn't work at all... will it eventually be mobile friendly?

I'm noticing weird formatting issues as well, along with some inconsistencies in how the layout renders between browsers. I'm going to try re-building the basic layouts this weekend while I'm making the next design updates to see if I can fix the problem.

And yes, the idea is for the site to be 100% responsive and mobile-friendly when all is said and done, though I've been noticing problems on mobile too.

@kostajh How do you pull the first few lines of a post via Jekyll (for the home page)? I'm sure it's in the documentation but if you know the general code I'll play around with that.

kostajh commented 10 years ago

@egardner what we'll want to do is add a field for "intro text" or something. I'll do that and let you know when it's done.

kostajh commented 10 years ago

@egardner ok that's done in #18. I haven't populated that field for any of the posts though - you can do that via prose.io

egardner commented 10 years ago

Cool, I'll add these via the prose interface. When I'm designing I'll try to specify a good character limit for this field, but probably one phrase/sentence is all we can fit if we have several posts appearing on the front page.

Yeah I think if it ends in an ellipsis or "click to read more" then a word limit makes the most sense.
