After pulling selenium updates the week of 6/3, we cannot interact with checkboxes #329

Closed espguitarist33 closed 5 years ago

espguitarist33 commented 5 years ago

Operating System

Linux version 3.10.0-693.5.2.el7.x86_64 (builder@kbuilder.dev.centos.org) (gcc version 4.8.5 20150623 (Red Hat 4.8.5-16) (GCC) ) #1 SMP Fri Oct 20 20:32:50 UTC 2017

Image version

Docker version

We get an error: ElementNotInteractableException whenever trying to click checkboxes via a remote driver session to the docker-selenium (through Zalenium) container with chrome. This started some time last week after updating to the latest zalenium and selenium images.

We've tried known-good configurations with our product, as well as rolling back to older versions of the images. Trying the 4.0 alpha release of Selenium didn't work either. Note that 2 completely independent teams on their own products/setups are experiencing the same issue. When running a local chrome session, however, it works fine.

Some versions kicked out debug info:

We have spent some time improving the issue templates in order to allow users to provide enough information when an issue is reported, which will end up helping the maintainers and collaborators to provide a better answer when an issue is created. Why did you delete the template? When possible, please provide the information requested in the original template in a new issue and then we will have a look.

espguitarist33 commented 5 years ago

All I thought I removed was the docker-compose details... Couldn't I have just edited the issue directly?

diemol commented 5 years ago

Sorry if that was rude, the thing is that if we don't know the context, it is impossible to understand what is going on from a stacktrace only. We don't even know what browser it is, how the test looks like... Those are important details.

espguitarist33 commented 5 years ago

Sure, understood. But I did include the output for each, I just must have missed that they were supposed to be checkboxes, but also the browser details are not part of the template.

I did mention that the issue is in Chrome, but I'm unsure of the version. Is that something I need to look up, or is that a set for each image version (filling out the new issue now)?

diemol commented 5 years ago

Before that, please be aware that Chrome 75 works in W3C mode by default. Might be that the commands you are using are not W3C compatible anymore. While you upgrade or change the test script, try to send the w3c: false inside the goog:chromeOptions to see if that makes things work.

espguitarist33 commented 5 years ago

Oh cool, that did it! Thanks for the tip.

I'm trying to look into the implications of the W3C changes and am finding a lot of detailed information, but not the quick info I need to close this out for us. (If this is something you can answer) Does the fact that W3C being active causes the automation to fail generally mean that the product under test is out of compliance with W3C's recommendations/standards?

diemol commented 5 years ago

No, this is related to W3C WebDriver https://www.w3.org/TR/webdriver1/
