Google Voice Search closes/doesnt open

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Tapping the Google voice search app
2.trying to input by voice in Google now
3.pressing the mic ( voice input) button on the keyboard to input text through 
voice recognition

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The expected output is to have either the app open and be able to input by 
voice or to be able to type by voice. Instead the expected screen comes up for 
a half a second or less, and then disappears and the phone says "unfortunately 
Google voice has stopped."
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? I am using 
jellytime v 4.2 R6.1

I actually found that by going into "Google Play", and manually downloading 
updates for "Google Search" (surprising, I know), this problem goes away.

I had the same issue with 4.2 R11. Same resolution.
