Separate Markdown File Created with original highlights deleted #85

When using annotator to make annotations to pdfs, the moment I click to view the .md file another "untitled" file is created. The trouble is that some of my annotations remain in the original file but then others are somehow migrated over into this randomly generated file. Also, the highlights associated with those markups placed in the randomly generated file are no longer visible in the original file containing the pdf in use. This requires that I look at the randomly generated file and mark up again the pdf in places where the information was erased. If you can address this issue, or inform me of my ineptness on this matter, please do so. I am running Obsidian on Debian 11.

In case it matters- what is the path to the pdf in your vault? I'll try to replicate the issue.

Odyssian commented 2 years ago

I commenced using the plug-in, thinking that setting a path for my files was not necessary, but, perhaps, this is indeed the problem. I will set a path and report back with any new changes.

Odyssian commented 2 years ago

When I create a path, my files do not appear in it once I begin to use the plug-in. My set up is that my pdfs are part of my Obisidan vault. Do you think this may contribute to the problem I am experiencing?

elias-sundqvist commented 2 years ago

No, that setup should be fine. I think you have found a bug. Do you have some way of consistently making this happen? Does it depend on which pdf you are trying to annotate? Are you using any other plugin that could be interfering?

Odyssian commented 2 years ago

It happens when I open a new pdf to annotate. Once I wait about 10-15 minutes after the randomly generated file appears, I place all the annotations back in the original file. After that, I don't experience any further problems with the pdf under annotation. All other pdf plug-ins I've downloaded are disabled, even dataview.

I believe I have figured out the problem. I went to the Obsidian website and installed a more up-to-date installer of Obsidian for Linux. Since I have done this, the problem has yet to occur again.

@Odyssian then perhaps close this issue?
