How doable/usable would it be to have Create Fissure target a single hex, and then temporarily give you a secondary "spell" that you could use to add another hex adjacent to any current Create Fissure hex? This would give some flexibility over the hexes affected, while making it a single connected shape.
You could even, if desired, have a limit on hexes chosen per turn and let the player choose when to finish casting so that a larger chasm could be created with longer casting. That might not be worth it, though, since it's not hugely different from just casting the spell again.
The problem is that it takes a lot of UI interaction to cast a spell. Ideally, a customizable-shape spell should take ONE click for each hex you want to toggle on/off.
I might be able to make the targeting grid do that, but there's a big additional cost of explaining the interface to the user, plus the user not necessarily getting a real sense of what it will look like on the main map.
This is something to consider as I try to make a way to let you choose targets on the main map.
The old "delay by one turn" mechanic has a striking similarity to the newer feature, rituals.
Since creating chasm is a moderately game-breaking ability, it will now be rank 5 or 6.
Maybe it should create a line of chasms, like Corridor of Frost? I'm not sure that's the shape you would actually want, though.
Non-flying units caught in the spell should no longer be killed instantly, but merely take a large amount of impact damage.
