i3-layouts does not work #15

after following instructions, making sure exec i3-layouts and set $i3l spiral 0.5 to workspace $ws1 in my i3 config file, it does not work. i still get windows splitting horizontally. I have i3wm and i3-gaps installed.

restarting my machine made it work briefly, but now it does not work at all

I'm having the same problem, though restarting never got it to work. What does work is the i3l command on the terminal. I run that and I'm able to do 'i3l spiral" or whatever layout. So I could assign them to keyboard shortcuts I suppose. But I would really like to assign it by workspace.

Actually I have an alternate way in mind that I will work on once I have a moment.
