Background:
Previously identified as a need researching with Production and Editorial teams, but reinforced with user testing of commenting feature with the Ed Office team.
Using the same or similar commenting features to leave comments for staff/colleagues instead of to the author. The idea begin to leave important information for "whoever" is looking at the submission. This is in addition to "labels" for important, general notes, and "chat" for direct messages to a specific person at a specific time.
Things to consider when designing:
Ensure clear indication of the presence of comments as they can be hidden when commenting pane is not open. The idea being to ensure anyone looking at the submission is aware of the information.
Must make clear distinction between adding author comments or staff comments so users feel confident an author will not see their comments
Do we need ability to mention specific teams or staff to notify them of the comment? (There has been some design work on this already)
Do we use tabs or a switch to separate the staff and author comments in the comments pane? Or do we mix them together with clear states for each
Do we use a dropdown or similar to decide whether a comment is for the author or staff when creating the comment (specify comment type)
Or are comments added for staff or authors based on the "view" of the comment page (see above point on tabs or switch for different views)?
What are the interactions involved? Reply, Resolve?
How are staff comments and author comments indicated at dashboard level? Different icons?
