Because there are people out there with 2.x ... There will be odds like those 
message
boxes not adhering to rotation but that's an API bug and can be solved later as 
well
with workarounds.

until issue 50 is fixed

Just spent the last hours fighting about issue 50, trying to be be
backwards-compatible, until I succumbed to using some quick 3.0 features. It's
probably very easy for people with UIKit but I'm not one of them (and probably 
never
will be) ...

I think aiming for this is a bad idea. It’ll just result in time spent wasted 
working around OS bugs which are fixed in 3.0 (the +imageNamed: problem springs 
to 
mind), and for no real gain.
