You mean for achievements / friends lists? What else can you do?
Are there other systems like this, and what are some pros and cons?

i cannot really pick as i use both, but openfeint does have the advantage of
chatrooms
where as plus+ only has friends lists. i definately want to see this feature
but i
dont really care what system is chosen

I posted this on the beta site but will do so here with more details.
there are 2 main contenders in the gaming network market for idevices atm,
openfeint
and plus+, their are others but they are very underdeveloped and mostly a waste
of time.
there is a network war going on atm between them, it would be best for the
consumers
if one became the standard as the point of social gaming networks is to bring
gamers
and friends together, not divide them, i personally like openfeint but wish one
would
win either way and get it over with.
ok openfeint features.
global high scores hosted by them! something inethack could really use!
achievements much like x-box live
app specific chat rooms, and global chat rooms (yep that would mean inethack in
app
chat room!! could be very usefull for ppl new to nethack.)
friends list and messaging. the friends list also shows what game they are
playing,
this cross promotes games, less usefull for inethack as your not making money
from it
but still cool.
issue challenges, you can issue a challenge to someone on your friends list to
try
and beat you score in a game.
as for cons not much really, its free for both devs and users, only small down
side
is it does take a bit of system resources but that shouldn't cause problems in
anything but the most high end 3d games. if you want to check it out pocket god
has
the newest ver of openfeint in it (the new ver is much better then the older
one that
many games still have due to waiting on apple)
as for plus+ i dont know a whole lot about it as i dont use it, but a few
things i do
know.
afaik it lacks chat and messaging functions which are the 2 biggest parts of a
social
gaming network.
the have a new feature which allows plus+ games to save game files on there
server,
that way a person can play their save on any device (i addmit thats a pretty
nifty
feature)

ihanners the newest ver of OF has friends list as well (previous ver uses
twitter or
facebook for friends lists which was lame)

Haven't looked at any specific implementation yet. One last concern is that due
to
iNetHack's open source nature, any highscores / achievements will be pretty
easy to fake.
Any thoughts on that?

well most "normal" users will not be able to fake them, would require to be
jailbroken at least, plus knowledge of how nethack works, but yah there are ppl
out
there that could do it.
no real way to prevent that that i know of :-( guess it would just be an evil
we will
have to love with?

Just signed up to openfeint and guess what? It's c++ only :(( Don't get me
wrong, I
have used it with great love but that would mean that I have to support 3
languages
in one project, and I don't like dealing with that GCC_OBJC_CALL_CXX_CDTORS
stuff.
I think it's kind of lame not to provide a C API, and not mentioning it until
you
have signed up is even worse. So far I'm underwhelmed.

Isn't Apple introducing their own network now as well?

Yes, in the fall iirc, which means that it will likely come to iNetHack.
