crashes right away on ipod touch os 3.0

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Boot new version of nethack 1.1 on stock ipod touch v2 w/iphone os 3.0
2. on boot, says "oops", "error", "tell wizard", "could not allocate
(~320000000) bytes of memory (some very large number)
3. exits

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

expected nethack 1.1, see error above instead

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.

Happens every time.  I updated today and the old version worked fine but
the new version crashes on boot with the error as noted with an ipod touch
,v2 hardware, iphone/ipod os 3.0, totally stock, with no jailbreaks or
anything like that.

Have you tried erasing the old version before install?
